Nigerians have taken to the internet to lament the poor state of the nation’s Federal Fire Service.

Anaedoonline.ng had reported earlier that fire gutted a part of the popular Nyanya market in the Federal Capital Territory on Tuesday.

While the cause of the fire incident is yet to be ascertained, a team of fire service in Abuja arrived at the scene in an attempt to put out the raging fire.

The Abuja Fire Service spokesperson, Ugo Huan, had confirmed that its officials have responded to the incident and the fire is under control.

“It is true. We received a distress call and our men went there. Everything is under control,” Huan said while confirming the fire incident.

However, a video of the fire incident now viral on social media has caused a barrage of reactions as an official of the fire service was seen struggling to pump out liquid from their van.

Onlookers could be heard in the background of the video making a sincere mockery of the fire service operation.

While feeling sorry for properties already consumed and more about to be destroyed by the inferno, the onlookers lament the incumbent government efforts and the fire agency for allegedly failing to cut down on issues of fire outbreak in the country.

A netizen, @yqool who advised that the fire service should adopt a period check on the equipment said:

“This is the state of the country, easy to blame government but these people get paid to not care about their Job.

There’s something called Fire Drill, even If they can’t do drill they can just do routine checks of their Equipment. Also, people that build/ own that place with no plan of emergency smh. Everybody is to blame here.”

“Let’s be honest, who’s fault it’s? The Government? the firefighters that didn’t take jobs serious? Or the firefighters’ management that refused to check on Employees to see if they were doing the job given to them? Is time to stop salaries payments in Nigeria because staff’s don’t care about their jobs since they’ll get paid no matter the situation.” – @olusegunolosco.
