Nnamdi Kanu Emergency Court Appearance: IPOB Suspends Sit-at-home

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has suspended its sit-at-home order in the South East, reports.

The pro-Biafra group in a statement on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, said that the lockdown order was suspended following an emergency court session for its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, scheduled for Thursday, December 2, 2021.

Kanu is facing an amended 7-count charge bordering on treasonable felony and acts of terrorism which were brought against him by the Federal Government after his re-arrest and repatriation to Nigeria in June this year.

Nnamdi Kanu: South-East Leaders Initiate Move To Ensure Release of IPOB Leader

The IPOB leader has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) from where he attends his court sessions in Abuja amidst heavy security.

Justice Binta Nyako had adjourned Kanu’s case till January 19 and 20, 2022, for trial.

But in a fresh twist, reports emerged that the IPOB leader would be in court tomorrow, in what some sources say is a move to grant the Biafra activist bail.

However, Powerful stated that there will be no sit-at-home in the South East on Thursday as a result of the court appearance of its leader.

The IPOB spokesman asked residents of the region and investors in the state to go about their businesses without fear of molestation and intimidation.

Powerful urged IPOB supporters in Abuja to come out en masse and show solidarity for Kanu.

He said: “There will be no lockdown tomorrow in any part of Biafra land as a result of the court appearance. Biafrans residents in Biafra land, as well as visitors to Biafra land, are free to go about their lawful businesses without fear of molestations or intimidation.

“We have not asked or authorized anybody to monitor or enforce any lockdown. Again, there will be no lockdown in Biafra land for tomorrow’s court appearance of our Leader. Only Biafrans and friends of Biafra in Abuja and its environs are encouraged to be at the court premises”.
