The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said it will make its decision known in the next 24 hours over the failure of the Federal Government to meet its demand.

Speaking with reporters on Monday, ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, berated the government for failing to meet its demands before the expiration of its ultimatum on Sunday.

The ASUU chairman asserted that the principal officers of the union met on Sunday and decided to meet with various branches across the federation.

He revealed that the consultation with various branches across the federation is part of the union’s laid-down rules.

Recall that ASUU had threatened to embark on strike at the end of the three-week ultimatum given to the Federal Government.

According to the union, it has not heard from President Muhammadu Buhari-led government since they both met last month.

ASUU said the federal government had promised to pay the N30billion revitalisation fund to universities while also agreeing to release N22.1billion earned allowances to university workers.

Some of the union’s demands include funding for the revitalisation of public universities and earned academic allowances.

Other outstanding issues are University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS) promotion arrears, renegotiation of the 2009 ASUU-FGN agreement, and the inconsistencies in IPPIS payment, which up till now had not been addressed.
