An Abia High Court sitting in Umuahia on Friday said it will consider granting hearing notice of judgement to parties involved in the application by the leader of the Indigenous peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Anaedoonline.ng understands that the court sitting presided over by Justice Benson Anya today, made the move following the adoption of processes by parties involved in the case.

Kanu’s legal counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, had on the 26th of August, 2021 approached the court with an application that accused the federal government and its agencies of violating the Biafran agitator’s fundamental human rights.

Kanu’s lawyer also demanded “an order compelling the respondents to release Kanu from detention, an order compelling the respondents to issue a letter of apology to Kanu, a declaration mandating the respondents to pay Kanu the sum of N5bn for the physical, emotional and psychological trauma instilled on him and “such orders the federal government may deem fit to make.”

However, in his response, while conversing with the press today, the counsel for the Chief of Army Staff who is a respondent in the suit, Amos Tori, said the petitioners failed to join the Army Council who is supposed to pay and not the Chief of Army Staff, stating “the case is going nowhere”.
