Final Year University Student Set Ablaze For Refusing To Join Cult

The Osun State University on Monday confirmed that one of its students was set ablaze for refusing to join a cult group.

The management of the institution in a statement released by its Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, identified the victim as Victor Oke, a part-time final year Political Science student.

The statement obtained by Newsmen said before attempting to burn Oke to death, his assailants had shot at him and inflicted machete cuts on him.

After the body wounds, Oke was set on fire but was luckily rescued and taken to the hospital before he could be burnt to death.

The institution added that the perpetrators of the attack which happened on Saturday must be arrested by security operatives and made to face justice.

The University statement reads: “We noticed that Victor was absent for his final paper in the afternoon and decided to contact his parents.

“It was later discovered that he was attacked by unknown cultists in the early hours of Saturday.

“Victor was shouting that he was not joining their cult group while they continued to hit him with cutlasses, hard stones and attempted to burn him, partially succeeding before he was eventually rescued.

“The University security unit is currently working with the Police to ensure the culprits are exposed and brought to book. The cultists must be arrested.”
