Boko Haram Terrorists Declare Borno Town As West African Caliphate Headquarters

Dreaded Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly taken over Gudumbali in Borno State, and have declared the town as its West Africa caliphate headquarters.

The report on Monday morning revealed that a faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), has made Gudumbali its Manhaja Jundun Khilafah Wylaya West Africa (Caliphate headquarters).

Gudumbali is the headquarters of Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State and is located approximately 125 kilometres north of the state capital, Maiduguri.

The terrorist group had recently set up a market in Daban Gajere, located very close to Bulwa Bakin Dam and another in Tamfalla in the Marte Local Government Area.

Anaedoonline.ng understands that the established markets are expected to be open for business on Wednesday and Thursday of every week.

It is not the first time the insurgence would invade a community and thereafter establish markets, determine levies and fees for traders and as well collect revenue.

Some photos of tax receipts issued by the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), to farmers and herdsmen in the North-East had surfaced on social media recently.

In a report, the receipts are said to be issued to locals of some farming communities in Borno State under the control of the terror group after collection of levies and taxes from them.

Several reports in 2021 reported how the insurgents had been taxing residents of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe State and with failure of the residents to comply with the directive attracting the death penalty.

It was reported how ISWAP established two Wilaya’s (Caliphates) at Lake Chad and Sambisa forest to sustain its war against countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Anaedoonline.ng understands that since the death of JAS leader, Abubakar Shekau, ISWAP has been consolidating its grip in locations around Lake Chad.
