Pandemonium In Anambra As Trader Gives Apprentice N100,000 After Serving Him For Nine-Years

Some traders and apprentices in International Electrical Market, Obosi/Onitsha, Anambra State, on Saturday staged a protest in reation to a trader giving his apprentice N100,000 after serving him for nine years.

The protest reportedly occurred in front of the man’s shop as the group chanted ‘Enough is enough; the revolution has started..

They stated that the sum of N100,000 was too small considering the fact the apprentice served his boss for nine years. They subsequently demanded that the money be increased to a more substantial sum.

Reacting to the incident, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Anambra Broadcasting Service, Chief Uche Nworah, said that they had noted the abuse in the apprentice system and were joining hands with Awka Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture to have a summit on Igbo apprenticeship titled ‘Repositioning Igbo Apprenticeship Scheme (Igba -Boi) for Sustainable Economic Development.’ The goal of the summit is to discuss and recommend improvements in the Igbo apprenticeship scheme.
