Latest reports from the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) show that Austine Eguavoen has been named as the head coach of the Super Eagles, he is to be assisted by his fellow Ex-international and former Eaglets’ head coach, Emmanuel Amunike.

It was also gathered that the decision was taken after a meeting involving the Ministry of Youths and Sports and some officials of the Nigerian Football Federation.

NFF had earlier announced that Jose Peseiro, from Portugal, would take over from Eguavoen, who took the Eagles to Cameroon for the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) on an interim basis.

The Nigerian gaffer was meant to step down for his Portuguese counterpart and return to his role as a technical adviser for the team.

It was revealed that the Nigerian tactician has been offered a two-year contract, in which he could get a pay rise from his pay at present, which stands at 3million naira.

A cross section of Nigerian coaches under the auspices of the Nigerian Football Coaches Association was said to have spoken on the subject matter, in which the legendary Coach Onigbinde stressed that Eguavoen has done much more with much less, having been able to prepare the Eagles for AFCON ’21 within one month, even without some of the team’s key players.

The coaches also noted that Nigerian coaches should be given fair opportunity just like their foreign counterparts.

The Edo-state  born Eguavoen equalled his record as the Nigerian coach who won all his three group stage matches in a major tournament, a record he had set during the 2006 AFCON and equalled in AFCON 2021.
