Solomon Dalong, a former Minister of Sports, has urged lawmakers over 65 to forget about preparing to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Lagos Governor Bola Tinubu, both over 65, are expected to run in the 2023 presidential election, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

Nigerians have asked for a young President who can manage the rigors of the administration in light of the present economic depression.

In an interview with Newsmen on Monday, Dalong stated that Nigeria currently requires a dynamic and active leader.

“I feel that anyone above the age of 65 should devote their energy to become a senator rather than running for president,” he stated.

“Every executive job must be given to the young people.” Since 1999, we have squandered their potential and have failed to construct a future for them.

“As a result, we should retire and let them manage their own destiny.” When they succeed, they rejoice, and when they fail, they are solely responsible.

“I don’t want to be involved in this never-ending game of planning the future for the youth.” The truth is that we do not want anyone beyond the age of 65 to run for President of Nigeria.

“The office is too demanding; it’s too active, and we don’t want someone to go there and be so sympathetic that they transfer their tasks to people they won’t be able to manage due to their age.”
