Yul Edochie, a Nollywood actor, has declared that hunger and poverty, not the movie business, are to blame for the rise in ritual killings in Nigeria.
The actor revealed this in a post on his Instagram page, in which he lambasted critics of Nollywood for the rising prevalence of ritual killings in Nigeria.
According to the actor, he first heard of ritual murders in Nigeria when he was a child in the 1980s.

He said that poverty and hunger, not Nollywood, are to blame for the country’s crime rate.
Yul Edochie further stated that the film business just depicts what occurs in society, and that Nigerians are living in abject poverty.
In his word: “From when I was a kid in the eighties I started hearing about ritual killing in Nigeria. Then there was no Nollywood. Hunger and poverty make people to do crime. No be Nollywood cause am.
“Nollywood is only showing what happens in society. Nigerians are wallowing in extreme poverty. A hungry man is an angry man, fix the country and crime will go away. Don blame Nollywood.”
