The cops were at the roadblock for a normal stop and search when the gunmen stormed the scene and opened fire, killing three of them instantly, according to the source.

The attackers were eventually rebuffed because they were unable to obtain entry into the Police Area Command, which is located within the Ishielu Local Government Headquarters in Ezillo.

The bodies of the killed officers, however, have been placed at a morgue in Abakaliki after medics verified their death.

When contacted, DSP Loveth Odah, the Police Public Relations Officer, acknowledged the attack but gave no additional details.
