Three relatives of Benue State Governor Dr Samuel Ortom were assassinated by gunmen believed to be Fulani herders.
The three, two males and a female, were slain Saturday at 5 p.m. when gunmen ambushed and barricaded the Lordye-Gbajimba route in the state’s Guma Local Government Area, according to Anaedoonline.ng.
The victims were on a motorbike when they were attacked and killed by murderous herdsmen who had taken over parts of the local government on the outskirts of Nasarawa State.

Those who were shot died on the scene from bullet wounds, while the other was viciously macheted to death, according to security services who collected the remains.
Soldiers attached to Operation Whirl Stroke recovered the bodies and deposited the corpses at Gbajimba general hospital.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ortom, Mr Nat Ikyur, Saturday night, said, “this has been the plight of Benue indigenes in the hands of Fulani herdsmen who have invaded the state in a bid to take over our ancestral lands”.
