Following President Vladimir Putin’s announcement that Russia’s deterrent forces, including nuclear weapons, have been placed on high alert, the United States has retaliated.

President Joe Biden of the United States stated that his country does not need to be concerned about a nuclear war.

This comes after Putin said on Sunday that he was raising the alert level on his nuclear weapons.

Officials from the Biden administration had previously stated that Putin’s decision to activate deterrent forces was needless and escalatory.

The U.S said that Putin was not under any threat.

White House press secretary, Jen Psaki told ABC News on Sunday that Putin was “manufacturing threats that don’t exist in order to justify further aggression.”

The Pentagon responded by calling the announcement “as unnecessary as it is escalatory.”

Kirby said that the U.S Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin is “comfortable with the strategic deterrent posture of the United States, and our ability to defend our homeland and our partners.”
