President Muhammadu Buhari is said to have resisted pressure from several state governors to alter his mind regarding his choice of former Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Adamu as the party’s next national chairman (APC).

During a meeting with fellow APC governors on Tuesday, the three governors are believed to have sought to persuade President Buhari to reconsider his decision.

The governors, one from the South-East, another from the South-West, and the final from the North-Central, are believed to be unhappy with the present system and have attempted to persuade Buhari to reconsider his position on Adamu and the party’s zoning formula revealed last week.

According to a source, the three governors were dissatisfied since their requests were not granted at the meeting.

“At the conference, the President disapproved of a new zoning system proposed and submitted by three governors, as well as the names recommended for several posts.”

“At the convention, he reaffirmed the PGF’s original zoning scheme and insisted on Abdullahi Adamu as his candidate for chairman.”

At today’s meeting, the three governors who are attempting to change the zoning formula were all crestfallen.

“Mai Mala Buni did not show up because he got wind of what was going to happen at our meeting with Mr President. Maybe, he didn’t want to be caught up in the crossfire of the divided PGF.

“The three governors included one from the South-East, another from the South-West and the last from the North-Central. They were not happy that their influential colleagues even got the meeting scheduled.

The Governors elected on the platform of the APC were led to the meeting by the Kebbi State Governor who is also the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Alhaji Atiku Bagudu.
