Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has stated that he would rather leave politics than be involved in bloodletting violence.

On the sidelines of the first plenary of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria in the nation’s capital, Abuja, the Governor made the claim to media on Sunday.

Governor Uzodinma has separated himself from politicians that use violence to attain their own goals, especially during elections.

“I don’t belong to the class of politicians that advocate violence,” he remarked. I am not a member of the political elite that will bleed blood (to win elections).

“I’d rather not be a politician than be a weapon of mass destruction.” If you recall the history of Nigerian elections, they have always been met with trepidation from the start.”

Imo State has recently faced a number of security issues as a result of a confrontation between proscribed members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and law enforcement forces.

Due to the claimed actions of the IPOB’s security branch, the Eastern Security Network, ESN, many security officers have been killed and police stations have been burned throughout the state.
