Viktor Yanukovych, the former president of Ukraine, has asked the current president, Volodymyr Zelensky, to abandon the war against Russia.
“You personally are obligated to end the carnage and establish a peace accord at whatever cost,” the pro-Moscow legislator wrote in a statement carried by Russian official media Ria Novosti on Tuesday.
“This is what Ukraine, the Donbas, and Russia are counting on you to deliver.”

Yanukovych also claimed that such a move would be welcomed by Kiev’s Western allies.
Yanukovych, who is widely seen as a corrupt leader, was deposed in 2014 by pro-Western protests.
The 71-year-old has been living in exile in Russia since then.
In his own country, he was condemned to 13 years in jail for treason in his absence.
According to Ukrainian media, the Kremlin wants to reinstate Yanukovych as President.
