David Umahi, the deposed Governor of Ebonyi State, has been replaced by Hon. Iduma Igariwey of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Following their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, Governor Umahi and his Deputy, Dr Eric Kelechi Igwe, were fired by a Federal High Court in Abuja, according to Anaedoonline.ng (APC).

PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu, who made the announcement at an international news conference in Abuja on Tuesday, praised the decision, stating that “the judiciary is definitely the backbone of this democracy.”

“We also want to call out Justice Inyang Ekwo for special commendation,” he said, “especially for his guts and forthrightness in pursuing the substance of the law rather than the technicalities.”

“And, in accordance with the court ruling, the PDP is submitting the names of its candidates for Governor and Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State to INEC as soon as possible.”

“We are also urging INEC to give Certificates of Return to the PDP nominees as a substitute for Messrs Umahi and Igwe, in accordance with the Honourable Judge’s Order.”

Responding to questions, Ayu said the party nominated Hon Iduma Enwo Igariwey as a replacement for Governor David Umahi and Fred Udeogu as deputy governor.
