IGP Baba Expresses Sadness As He Confirms DIG Joseph Egbunike’s Death

Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, has expressed sorrow over the death of Joseph Egbunike, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in command of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID).

Egbunike, the chairman of the Special Investigation Panel set up to investigate accused police officer Abba Kyari, fell and died in his Abuja office on Tuesday, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

IGP Baba said Egbunike died on Tuesday night at the National Hospital in Abuja following a brief illness, according to a statement released by the acting Force Public Relations Officer, Olumiyiwa Adejobi.

The death of the top police officer, according to the police chief, is a huge loss for the country, the Nigeria Police Force, and the security business in the country.

Egbunike, according to Baba, was a devoted and experienced police officer who served the country in a number of roles, including as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Police Accounts and Budget.

He, on the other hand, expressed his condolences to the dead DIG’s immediate family, relatives, and friends, and prayed for his soul’s peace.

“The Inspector-General of Police hereby condoles with the immediate family, relatives, and friends of the deceased DIG who passed away in active service of his fatherland and prays for the repose of his soul.”
