DCP Abba Kyari, the suspended former head of the Inspector-General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT), would be represented by at least twenty attorneys in the drug trafficking case brought against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

According to a legal practitioner, Musa Shafiu, on behalf of other attorneys in the team, the team would comprise four Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN).

He stated that Kyari will be represented by the legal team in the matter before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

NDLEA Approach Court For Extension To Detain Abba Kyari

“We should recall that DCP Abba Kyari refuted the NDLEA’s accusation that he was linked to an international drug gang in a suit filed before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

“He filed the motion in order to have his fundamental rights enforced.”

“He claimed he was willing to go in court to answer any accusation brought against him,” Shafiu added, “since the allegation on which he was seized and imprisoned is a trump-up allegation without adequate proof.”

Shafiu told reporters that Kyari distinguished himself as a police officer who faithfully served his nation and brought many criminals to justice, which is why they agreed to represent him.

He added that his good works far outweigh the charges against him.

His “good work and dedication to the country is far more than his shortcoming,” the lawyer declared.

It will be recalled that the NDLEA on Monday, 7th February arraigned Kyari, and six others over drug trafficking-related offences.
