Russia-Ukraine War: UK Govt Sanctions Roman Abramovich, Stops Chelsea Sale

In the latest raid on Russian assets in the UK, the UK government sanctioned Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the millionaire is one of seven rich Russian people sanctioned by the government on Thursday.

The penalties also impact billionaires and associates of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Igor Sechin and Oleg Deripaska, as well as Andrey Kostin and Alexei Miller.

Nikolai Tokarev and Dmitri Lebedev, whose business empires, money, and connections are directly linked to Russian President Vladimir Putin, are also affected by the sanctions.

Abramovich’s assets will be blocked as a result of the sanctions, and he will be barred from dealing with UK persons and businesses.

A travel restriction and further transportation sanctions will also be imposed on the Chelsea owner.

Chelsea will also operate under a special charitable license, and Abramovich’s intended sale of the club has been halted.

The team will be unable to sell new game tickets or recruit new players, but they will be allowed to go on with their regular operations.

“There can be no safe havens” for anyone who backed the invasion, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated in response to the penalties.

“Today’s sanctions are the latest sign of the United Kingdom’s steadfast support for the people of Ukraine.”

“Those who allow the massacre of people, the devastation of hospitals, and the illegitimate takeover of sovereign allies will be pursued ruthlessly.”

“Given the considerable impact that today’s punishments would have on Chelsea football club and the possible knock-on consequences,” the government said in a statement. “The Government has this morning announced a licence authorising a number of football-related activities at Chelsea to continue.”

“Permissions for the club to continue playing matches and other football-related activities are included in this, which will safeguard the Premier League, the larger football pyramid, devoted supporters, and other teams.”
