IGP Usman Baba Alkali, the Inspector General of Police, has ordered that police officers not wear t-shirts with varied inscriptions while on patrol.

Acting Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters Abuja, Muyiwa Adejobi, revealed this in a tweet, according to reports.

A signal to that effect has been sent to all state commands, according to the police spokesperson.

“Policemen detailed for patrol, stop and search, and check point tasks must be dressed in their official uniform, not T-shirts with inscriptions such as Special Forces, Commando, heroic mopol, scorpion, and so on,” Adejobi said.
No police officer is supposed to stand on a Nigerian road wearing mufti or other unapproved clothing.

“T-shirts; any officer discovered to be ineligible will be detained and prosecuted.” We are dedicated to bringing rationality to Nigerian policing. Thanks.”

“Today, a signal was sent out. I’ve requested the admin to spread the word. So, by tomorrow or Saturday, the message should have been widely distributed, while I prepare a press release.
