The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied receiving a letter from the All Progressives Congress (APC) advising it of a leadership change (APC).

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State stated in a leaked letter he gave to Governor Sani Bello of Niger State that he had handed authority to him before his medical travel to Dubai, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

However, the interim national chairman of the APC’s Caretaker Committee denied getting any letter from his Yobe State counterpart, claiming that Buni did not transfer authority to him before leaving the country.

Bello addressed INEC a letter on Wednesday, inviting the commission to the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday next week.

The commission responded to Bello’s letter by saying it was unaware of a leadership change in the APC and that it could not sanction the party’s planned national convention.

INEC’s spokesperson, Festus Okoye, told Newsmen on Friday that the commission had not received any contact from the APC regarding the transfer of powers.

Only Buni and the caretaker committee secretary, Sen John James Akpanudoedehe, he said, could write to the commission on behalf of the party.

The commission, according to Okoye, requested the APC to follow the constitution, the Electoral Act, and the commission’s recommendations.

“We did not get any formal letter from the APC National Chairman transferring power or duties,” Okoye added.

“All registered political parties are obligated to comply with the provisions of the constitution, the Electoral Act and the Regulations and Guidelines of the Commission.
