Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has chastised Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, for threatening to leave the PDP (PDP).

Shaibu had accused the PDP national leadership of fostering conflict in the state chapter of the party in an interview on Channels TV on Monday.

He said that the Edo PDP’s issues are the reason why some of those who defected with Governor Godwin Obaseki from the All Progressives Congress (APC) are considering doing so again.

Despite the evident issues facing the party, Shaibu stated that he will remain a member of the PDP.

Wike called Shaibu an ingrate for threatening to leave the PDP for another party while speaking at the opening of the Eastern Bypass Road project in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

The River governor alleged that the Edo deputy governor knelt to plead with the PDP to provide them a platform to run for governor in 2021.

“This is the stuff I’m talking about when I say impunity,” he explained. I was watching as a deputy governor went on a media rage, endangering the party by stating that there is a viable alternative to the PDP.

“This is the same deputy governor who knelt to ask for an umbrella from us. He has the audacity to threaten the PDP today.”
