Residents of Amankwo, in Imo State’s Orsu Local Government Area, have left the community following an attack by members of the Ebubeagu security organisation, who murdered an unknown number of people.
The governors of the South-East region introduced Ebubeagu in April 2021 to help in the battle against instability.
On Monday, security personnel were claimed to have attacked the Amankwo village, firing randomly.
Local residents informed Newsmen that local security officers also set fire to a market in the Nkwo-Idemili neighborhood.
During the raid on the village, a couple was alleged to have been slain.
Newsmen gathered that the incident resulted in serious panic as residents ran into neighboring villages for safety.
“Hope Uzodimma’s so-called Ebubeagu descended on the market in my community on Monday, torched and razed down the timber section of the market.
“The attack continued till last night (Thursday) and left a couple and many others dead. The town is deserted now.
“This is daily occurrence in all neighboring towns in my local government of Orsu. Everyone is living in fear. Please help us beg the government to stop these siege and senseless killings,”.
