Abubakar Malami (SAN), the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has said that he did not exonerate controversial DCP Abba Kyari.
In a statement issued on Sunday, AGF Malami indicated that all he sought for was a more thorough investigation into the acts of the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police.
Remember that the AGF had requested for more investigations in a legal advise sent to the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, noting that a prima facie case of money laundering had been established against the DCP.
Malami Makes U-turn Says No Evidence Abba Kyari Laundered Money
Dr. Umar Jibrilu Gwandu, Malami’s Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, said in a statement that media claims claiming Malami’s office had definitively exonerated Abba Kyari were untrue.
There appears to be a misunderstanding about the situation, according to the statement.
According to Malami’s spokeswoman, it was a work-in-progress case in which the office of the Attorney General of the Federation sought more examination into specific areas of the investigation.
He stated that the result reached about the supposed discrepancy on the matter was a clear example of misunderstanding.
“The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice’s position is that no determination has been made regarding the absence of evidence in relation to the first report.”
“The problems were highlighted for further examination with the goal of covering the area in order to arrive at an educated choice,” he explained.
According to Anaedoonline.ng, Kyari is wanted in the United States for his alleged involvement in a $1.1 million scam perpetrated by Ramon Abass, also known as Hushpuppi, a self-proclaimed internet fraudster.
At the Federal High Court in Abuja, the controversial police officer is also charged with eight charges of conspiracy, obstruction, cocaine dealing, and other connected offenses.
Sunday Ubia, Bawa James, Simon Agirigba, and John Nuhu, all members of the IRT, are the other defendants in the charge dated FHC/ABJ/57/2022.
