The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has claimed that Abba Kyari, the disgraced former head of the IGP Intelligence Response Team, was attempting to flee Nigeria.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Kyari and his co-defendant, Sunday Ubia, sought with the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday to grant them bail.

The DCP and Ubia persuaded Justice Emeka Nwite that their offenses are bailable through their counsel, Mahmud Magaji.

Joseph Sunday, counsel for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), however, objected to the bail application.

NDLEA, on the other hand, stated that Kyari intended to depart Nigeria to avoid being prosecuted for his crimes.

At today’s court session, the agency requested the Federal High Court to deny Kyari bail.

The agency claimed in a 21-paragraph counter-affidavit that Kyari would “escape and has the ability to influence with witnesses.”

Kyari and four former members of the Police Intelligence Response Team, IRT, were linked to an international narcotics gang by the NDLEA.
