Brent Renaud, an award-winning American journalist, was assassinated by Russian soldiers in Irpin, Ukraine.

The journalist “paid with his life for striving to expose the aggressor’s insidiousness, brutality, and ruthlessness,” according to a statement from Ukraine’s interior ministry.

In a social media post on Sunday, Kyiv area police confirmed that another American journalist was injured in the incident.

The 50-year-old American journalist who was slain was identified as ‘Brent Renaud,’ according to the authorities.

As proof, the Kyiv regional police uploaded a photo of his body as well as his American passport.

According to a New York Times story, Renaud “paid with his life for seeking to expose the aggressor’s insidiousness, brutality, and ruthlessness,” according to an assistant to Ukraine’s interior minister, Anton Gerashchenko.

The New York Times has also issued a statement in response to the journalists’ deaths, stating that they are “deeply grieved” by the news of Brent Renaud’s death.

They characterized him as a gifted filmmaker who had previously contributed to The New York Times.
