Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has warned the army, navy, police, and other security services that they are the main reason the battle against oil bunkering in the state is so tough.

Those security agencies, according to Wike, were totally complicit in the criminality they were supposed to be combatting.

According to Wike, if illegal activities such as artisanal crude oil refining continue unchecked, Nigeria’s economy would remain vulnerable.

Security agencies, according to the Governor, have not helped things and are thwarting government efforts to combat the threat of illicit crude oil refining.

Wike spoke when he donated 14 ballistic gunboats to the Navy, Army, the Police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at the NNS Pathfinder, Naval Base, Rumuolumeni in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area at the weekend.

He said: “Most of the problem we have with illegal oil bunkering is that security agencies are fully involved in this illegal oil bunkering.

“That’s the truth. Civil Defence is involved. Army is involved. Police are involved. The Navy is involved. Let us tell ourselves the simple truth.”
