Umahi’s Sack: Ebonyi Assembly Declares PDP Lawmakers’ Seat Vacant

The Ebonyi House of Assembly has declared the seats of three MPs elected on the Peoples Democratic Party platform void.

Following a letter of resignation from the three legislators, the seats were declared empty.

Ali Okechukwu (Ishielu North), Franca Okpo Abakaliki North), and Victor Aleke are the three legislators (Ebonyi West).

The three legislators and their PDP colleagues were reportedly absent from the meeting, but fifteen members of the All Progressives Congress were there.

The letter was read on the House floor by the speaker, Francis Nwifuru, who then declared the three legislators’ seats vacant.

Nwifuru directed the clerk to write to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to notify the electoral body of the development and the need to conduct fresh elections in the affected constituencies.
