Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has warned Godwin Obaseki of Edo State that they are not on the same level.

While reacting to Governor Wike’s savage assault on his deputy, Phillip Shaibu, Obaseki lambasted the Rivers Governor, describing him as a bully.

Members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo, were unhappy and did not feel accepted into the new party, according to Obaseki.

In a statement released on Monday, Obaseki said that Nigeria required strong democratic institutions, not powerful men, and that the main opposition party must prepare to recapture power in 2023.

However, Wike responded by claiming that the Edo State Governor was merely raving, and that administration was about feeling and touching, not a memorandum of agreement.

Wike said that Obaseki should not be compared to him in terms of accomplishments, revealing that when campaigning in Edo State for the 2020 gubernatorial election, he went three days without bathing for reasons he did not explain.

Wike emphasized his role in Obaseki’s re-election campaign, having served as the Director-General (DG) of his campaign organization in 2020.

What Wike Said On Obaseki Leaving PDP Again

“Let me state unequivocally that one of the difficulties in our nation is leadership – those who cannot stand up and say: this is white; this is black at all times,” Governor Wike said.

“I am not in the class of Obaseki, never! We are not the same, we can’t be the same. I was the DG of his campaign, I went there (to Edo) for three days. I stayed there without having my bath. I have never seen somebody like that in my life – a serial betrayer.

“Let me tell you Obaseki, I know your cohorts and I will smoke all of you out. This is not the Benin artefact that you were challenging the Oba (of Benin), this is politics. Obaseki, I have more stake in PDP than you. I have fought for this party, mention one thing that you have done for the PDP.,” Wike said while addressing a crowd at the commissioning of a secondary school in Rivers State on Monday.
