Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, has warned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may be making a mistake if it zones its presidential ticket for 2023 to the south.

He stated that, while having developed zoning as a means of ensuring a sense of belonging in every region of the nation, the PDP is not obligated to zone its presidential ticket for 2023 to the south.

According to Atiku, who spoke with members of the PDP’s Board of Trustees in Abuja on Tuesday, the south was exploited fourteen times during the PDP’s sixteen years in power, thus the 2023 ticket should not go to the area again.

PDP Reveals Plan For Zoning Of Presidential Ticket In 2023

He went on to say that while the current All Progressives Congress (APC) may be under pressure to offer its ticket to the south, the PDP should not be fooled by the prospect of a southern president in 2023.

“The many years of PDP rule; eight years and six years, they were all from the south,” he says. As a result, we must not be stampeded by the opposition. They have a moral responsibility.”

“We established and formulated this zoning policy merely to give every section of our country a sense of belonging, and I personally have paid my dues on the zoning problem.”

He hinted that the PDP’s 2023 ticket should not go to the south if the zoning scheme is followed.

“Therefore, you cannot come and try to imply that the PDP has not been following the zoning policy,” Mr Abubakar added.
