President Muhammadu Buhari engaged in the turbulence engulfing the ruling All Progressives Congress on Wednesday (APC).

In a letter to Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, who is also the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, President Buhari warned the plethora of lawsuits now engulfing the party might lead to the Independent National Electoral Commission invalidating the party’s activities and actions (INEC).

This was revealed in a statement delivered to journalists on Wednesday and signed by Femi Adesina, Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.

APC National Convention: Buhari Meets Buni Over Party Crisis

Buhari wrote in the letter, which was also copied to the Chairman of the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Committee (CECC), the Acting Chairman of the CECC, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, the Director General of the DSS, and the Inspector General of Police, that the party could not change the leadership of the CECC without violating the INEC time limit, and that the current uncertainties and controversies “pose a real threat to the party.”

Buhari ordered that the leadership of the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Committee (CECC) be reinstated as quickly as possible.

“All members of the Governors Forum and their supporters should refrain from any behavior or remark that would likely cause division in the party’s ranks, jeopardizing the transition to the convention,” he added.

Buhari also requested that the Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Committee be given permission to complete all required preparations in order to conduct the convention on March 26, 2022, as scheduled.

On his part, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu had accused Buni and some ‘yahoo yahoo‘ governors of trying to destroy the ruling party.
