The Chelsea Chicago Supporters’ Club has urged Roman Abramovich and anyone else in charge of selling the club against handing over control to the Ricketts family.
The Supporters Club’s Brian Wolff mentioned the difficulties and controversy surrounding Wrigley Field’s reconstruction, as well as the family’s political leanings.
Wolff claimed to be relaying the views of the vast majority of Chelsea fans, implying that the Ricketts family did not support BAME and LGBTQ+ groups.

Following the resurfacing of emails from Joe Ricketts last week in which he defined Muslims as “the enemy,” the Daily Mail reported that a number of Muslim Chelsea players are uncomfortable with the Ricketts becoming the club’s owner.
“As the Head of the Chelsea Chicago Supporters Club and the Chelsea Fans’ Forum Overseas Representative, I’ve had a unique position hearing what supporters in Chicago and around the world have to say about the Ricketts family’s bid for Chelsea,” Wolff writes in his statement.
“The Ricketts’ political donations, fundraising, and support for candidates who do not share Chelsea Football Club’s and its supporters’ inclusive views are wholly inconsistent with the club’s and the Chelsea Foundation’s 19 years of fantastic work, most notably as a leader in committing to a living wage and efforts to protect and promote equality for BAME and LGBTQ+ communities,” he added.
Wolf went on to point out that Ricketts’ ownership of Chicago Cubs baseball and redevelopment of Wrigley Field poses the question whether the family group will build upon Chelsea’s success on the pitch.

He also wonders if the Ricketts family would allow the continuity of the Chelsea Pitch Owners and to keep Chelsea playing at Stamford Bridge as their home ground forever.
“On behalf of countless supporters worldwide, I urge you to reject their bid for ownership of Chelsea Football Club in favour of others who will commit to not only building upon the last two decades of investment in players and infrastructure, but equally important, the investment in supporters and the values we hold dear,” he said.
The United Kingdom government had sanctioned Russian billionaire businessman, Abramovich over his association with President Vladimir Putin who recently ordered the invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces.
Abramovich, however, is not the only Russian Oligarch bearing the pains of the ongoing war in Ukraine as the US and other Western countries have severely sanctioned all prominent Russians in their countries and also seized their assets.
Meanwhile, the asset freeze, as a result of sanctions imposed on Chelsea owner, Abramovich means the club cannot even sell their tickets for matches.
