President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has announced the date of a referendum in his country.

When a constitutional reform occurs, according to Zelensky, Ukraine will have a referendum because he cannot decide on such topics alone.

On Monday, he said as much in an interview with Ukraine’s public broadcaster, Suspilne News.

“It will be a protracted process decided by the parliament and the people of Ukraine,” he stated.

Following many meetings between delegations from Ukraine and Russia on trying to end the ongoing issue, the President made this statement.

Zelensky warned his group that any meaningful settlement would require a referendum, despite the fact that he has not met with Russian negotiators.

“I explained to our negotiators at the talks that when one is talking about changes — and these changes may be of historic importance — there is no other way around it, we will have to hold a referendum,” he said.

Zelensky said that the people of Ukraine will speak and decide for themselves when it comes to such compromises that have to do with their future.

On the limit of the compromise Ukraine can reach in order to stop the war and allow Ukrainians return to their homes and leave in peace, Zelensky said it depends on what the Russians are demanding and if they are really prepared to see the war come to an end.
