Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, the former governor of Nasarawa state, has been appointed national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

This comes as all of Adamu’s roadblocks have been removed, paving the way for what would be an easy victory for him at the party’s National Convention on Saturday.

President Muhammadu Buhari hosted a dinner for the party’s National Chairmanship contenders late last night at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Despite the fact that the meeting’s details have not been made public, a trustworthy Villa source told African Community News that after listening to all the hopefuls, the president persuaded them to step down in favor of his choice, Abdullahi Adamu, in the party’s best interests.

The President also informed the candidates that the party would find a method to reimburse them for all of their expenses along the route, including the money spent on the nomination form.

Apart from the President’s meeting with hopefuls last night, the APC governors had already met with Buhari and agreed to support his decision for the party’s chairmanship candidate.

The President had told the governors who were led to him by the chairman of the party’s caretaker committee, Yobe state Governor, Mai Mala Buni that they have to accept consensus arrangement in order to avoid internal crisis, warning that they should not do anything that would help the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP take over national leadership of the country again.

The APC governors at the meeting pledged to abide by Buhari’s choice of candidate while returning to take decision on other positions as zoned by the committee.

It would be recalled that as part of the final preparations for Saturday’s national convention, chairman aspirants were screened Tuesday night by a committee headed by Aminu Masari, Governor of Katsina state.
