Kyari and four other accused pleaded not guilty at their arraignment, but the sixth and seventh defendants pled guilty and pleaded with the court to “have mercy.”

In a ruling on Monday morning, Justice Emeka Nwite held that the prosecution has placed sufficient materials before the court to warrant the refusal of bail to both senior police officers.

The presiding judge, however, granted an accelerated hearing of the case.

The judge also rejected the bail applications by Inspector Simon Agirgba; Inspector, John Nuhu.
