The clearance of N1 billion for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to purchase lie detectors and night vision goggles has sparked outrage.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) had previously approved the funds for the narcotics agency to purchase the devices in order to improve their performance in combating illicit substances in the nation, according to Anaedoonline.ng.
Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, stated this while briefing State House media following President Muhammadu Buhari’s FEC meeting on Wednesday.

The eye-scanning lie detector, according to Malami, will enable the NDLEA in determining if a person is telling the truth or lying during an inquiry.
The night vision goggle equipment, he explained, is meant to help NDLEA’s night operations due to its ability to provide visibility for the agency’s agents.
Some Nigerians, however, turned to Twitter to criticize the federal government for sanctioning such large amounts for the NDLEA while failing to provide funding for the striking professors.
Others stated that approving the funds to buy the equipment is just another ploy for politicians to plunder the country’s coffers.
