The Police Command in Imo State successfully repulsed a fatal attack on the Mbieri Police Division on Friday by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)/ Eastern Security Network (ESN).

The incident occurred on Friday morning, when a group of gunmen assaulted the station with explosive devices, according to the police.

Mr Maman Giwa, the acting Police Commissioner in Imo, made the announcement in a press statement signed by CSP Mike Abattam, the command’s spokesperson.

According to Giwa, the police station was only slightly damaged, and no one was injured.

“Hoodlums alleged to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra/ Eastern Security Network, its paramilitary wing launched an attack on Mbieri Police Station on April 1, but were defeated following tough resistance from the police operatives assigned to the division,” the statement stated in part.

“The hoodlums who tossed IEDs into the station and fired randomly were overpowered by the combat-ready police agents’ overwhelming firepower, causing them to flee in terror, escaping in their cars.”

“As a result of the valiant police officers’ quick response, only little damage was done to parked unserviceable vehicles and some windows owing to the explosive’s effect.”

Giwa added that no life was lost or injury sustained by the operatives, and no arms/ammunition were carted away.”

He said an investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to arrest the fleeing hoodlums.
