Senator Abdulahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), evicted journalists covering the party’s operations on Tuesday, leaving them stranded.

At the party’s national convention on March 26, Adamu, 75, was elected national chairman by consensus.

The eviction of journalists from the party secretariat’s press center, which began as a rumor, was verified when the party began remodeling work at the Media and Publicity office, which is adjacent to the press center on the ground level of the Secretariat.

The journalists were compelled to seek safety under the tree where they penned their stories as a result of the situation.

The ejection of the journalists from the press centre may be linked to Adamu’s inability to go up the stairs to his office on the third level, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

The climb up the stairs has taken Adamu roughly 20 minutes or more every time he visits the secretariat.

His incapacity to endure the rigors of stair climbing is due to his age.

Adamu is expected to transform the party’s media department and press center into his office, pending the installation of a lift at the party headquarters.

A staff of the party that informed journalists about the development said the party was “remodelling”, noting that that was the reason the staff of the media department and the journalists were evicted.

“We are remodeling the secretariat, my office is also affected. As I am talking to you, I have no office now,” he said.

At the moment, the media and publicity department will now be making use of the National Executive Committee (NEC) office, while the remodeling or renovation lasts.

They have not provided any alternative for journalists covering the governing party.
