Kaduna Train Attack: 163 Passengers, 7 Crew Members Untraceable – NRC

The Nigerian Railway Corporation said it has yet to make touch with 163 passengers and seven staff members who boarded the AK9 Abuja-Kaduna train on March 28, 2022, which was attacked by terrorists.

At the sixth report from the NRC on the train incident, Fidet Okhiria, the corporation’s Managing Director, stated that 191 passengers had been certified safe and were in their respective houses with their families.

He promised that efforts to reopen the train route was still underway.

“46 phone numbers on the manifest have been shut off or are not available since Tuesday morning,” he claims. There are 33 phone numbers on the manifest that are ringing, but no one is answering.”

He went on to say that 62 phone numbers on the manifest were non-existent when phoned, that 22 people were reported missing by family, and that eight people were verified deceased.

According to the NRC’s Managing Director, there were a total of 20 train crew members on board, with seven (being) NRC workers, five being alright, and two being missing.

Six of the ten janitors are alright, three are missing, and one is dead, he said, adding that one of the three aboard caterers is okay and the other two are gone.

SP 00020, one of the coaches, was successfully re-railed back to Rigasa station, according to Okhiria.

This, he claims, increases the total number of coaches retrieved and safely brought to the NRC stations to eight.

He said that the intensive track repair works continued on-site to enable the recovery of the remaining coaches and locomotives.
