Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, has ordered the removal of nine police officers, alleging that they were the ones demanding salary increases and intending to lead the rank and file into a strike.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the police headquarters had’sleepless evenings’ in March owing to warnings that junior officers would go on strike for a lack of pay, weapons to battle criminals, uniforms and accessories, and promotion delays, among other issues.

The police insisted that their minimum compensation not be less than N100,000, questioning why the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives get paid so much more.

In an attempt to avert the March 26 strike, the Inspector General appealed to all commands and police formations across the country, making promises and promising his troops of better welfare in the future.

Despite the fact that the strike and countrywide demonstration did not occur on March 26, police officials moved ahead and arrested nine policemen, all of whom have now been fired.

Two Inspectors, five Sergeants, and two Police Constables are among them.

On April 4, they received their sack via a police telegram signed by the Commissioner of Police Provost, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The guys were terminated after their orderly room trial “for plotting and orchestrating a strike inside the ranks and file of the police,” according to a police wireless message.

They were sacked for alleged “discreditable conduct, improper conduct, breach of confidence, to wit: planning, organising, coordinating industrial strike within the ranks of the Nigeria Police Force.”

As a result, the signal addressed to all police commands said, “the Inspector-General has approved their dismissal from service.”

Commissioners of police commands and formations concerned were asked to de-kit the men and eject them from the police accommodation and facilities and to “delete subjects from IPPIS payroll immediately.”

“The commissioner, welfare to delete subjects from police nominal roll accordingly,” the IGP ordered.

It was gathered that the dismissal of the nine cops is already brewing bad blood within the ranks of police operatives, who said the act was an indication that the IG has no plan to improve their welfare.

It was gathered that some cops are already planning to turn in their resignation letters, while others may revisit the need for an industrial action.
