Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has warned Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, that Nigeria is at a “critical crossroads” as a result of “many quagmires” under President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

El-Rufai believes that at this juncture, Nigerians must make painful choices in order to elect the appropriate leaders to lead the country out of its numerous quagmires.

The Governor made the remarks while receiving the APC National Leader, who was in Kaduna on a condolence visit following the bandits’ attack on a train going for Kaduna.

El-Rufai also informed Tinubu that he was aware of his presidential ambitions, but that he was relying on God to guide Nigeria’s selection of the right leader.

El-Rufai, whose statements sounded like criticism of the Buhari-led Federal Government, said Tinubu had demonstrated a historic and unique leadership character by visiting the state.

Since the attacks, deaths, and kidnappings become more frequent, President Buhari has neglected to visit the state. Even the recent bombing of a commercial train failed to entice President Muhammadu Buhari to return to Kaduna, where he was claimed to have lived until 2015.

El-Rufai recently claimed that if assaults in the North-West persisted, governors would hire foreign mercenaries, a comment that directly criticized the Buhari administration.

“The government and people of Kaduna State will never forget this gesture,” El-Rufai told Tinubu, adding, “We are very grateful to you for service, sacrifice and commitment to the unity and that of our country.

“We are aware of your aspiration to be president of this country, we look forward to further engagement so that we can progress that aspiration.

“Nigeria is at crossroad, critical crossroad, and we must take very difficult decisions to get the right leaders that would take us out of the multiple quagmires that we are going through.

“These are human challenges and they can be solved by human ingenuity. I pray for God to choose who is best for Nigeria, so that we will be the better, united, progressive and exemplary country that is fair and just to everyone.”
