Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the main Igbo socio-political group, has pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to spare Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

George Obiozor, the President-General of Ohanaeze, requested Buhari to use his prerogative of pity on Kanu and other incarcerated Igbo youths in Nigeria.

On Saturday, he made the appeal during a ceremony hosted in his honor by Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma in Owerri.

“We strongly urge the federal and state governments to engage the restive Igbo youths in some sort of discussion in order to find a peaceful solution to the current situation,” he added.

“In this context, we equally appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to exercise his prerogative of mercy for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other Igbo youths in detention in various places.”

The Ohanaeze leader further urged IPOB to embrace peace and end its sit-at-home order in the Southeast.

Kanu is in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, in Abuja.
