JUST IN: FG Set To Meet ASUU Today Over Strike

Today, Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, will meet with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Today marks the 56th day of ASUU’s continuous strike (Monday).

Remember that on March 14th, ASUU announced an eight-week extension of its strike, claiming that it was giving the government more time to address its concerns.

JUST IN: FG, ASUU Meet Today To Resolve Strike

Representatives from the Federal Government and ASUU will attend the meeting, which is scheduled at 5 p.m.

Patience Onuobia, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, confirmed the news.

According to Onuobia in the statement, Ngige will chair the meeting himself.

The notice released reads, “The Minister for Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, will be meeting with the Academic Staff Union of Universities today by 5 pm.”

Some of ASUU’s demands include the release of revitalization funds for universities, renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, release of earned allowances for university lecturers, and deployment of the UTAS payment platform for the payment of salaries and allowances of university lecturers.
