UPDATE: FG Declares Friday, Monday As Easter Holiday

In honor of Easter celebrations, the Federal Government announced Friday and next Monday official holidays on Tuesday.

Easter is a Christian celebration and cultural event observed every year to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

Easter falls on Sunday, April 17th, and Monday, April 18th this year.

In this regard, on behalf of the federal government, Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola stated today that the Easter Holiday will commence on Friday.

Aregbesola asked Christians to follow the virtues of sacrifice, togetherness, forgiveness, compassion, love, peace, and patience, which were shown by Jesus Christ’s mission on earth, in a statement issued on his behalf by Dr Shuaib Belgore, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary.

The Minister also urged Christians and other Nigerians to utilize this year’s Easter celebration as an opportunity to pray for an end to all security crises plaguing the country.

“The federal government will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the recent attacks by undesirable elements on the highways, airport and the railway are timely brought to an end.

“Security is everybody’s business. I, therefore, urge e Nigerians and foreigners resident in our country to display a high sense of citizenship and public spiritedness at this critical time in the history of our country, by supporting the efforts of all security agencies in bringing peace and security of lives and property of the citizenry,” he said.
