During a standoff between First Bank and the Central Bank of Nigeria over improper appointments and dismissals, Oworu was removed from the board of directors of the bank in April 2021.

Oworu’s employment marks a return to Sterling Bank, which she previously worked for when it was known as NAL Merchant Bank.

Sterling Bank also appointed Olatunji Mayaki as Non-Executive Director.

Mayaki is currently the Executive Management Consultant at Welton Energy/Addax Petroleum Development Nigeria Ltd.

Sterling wrote in the statement, “Mayaki has over 35 years of experience in Corporate Law, Banking & Finance, Asset and Wealth Management and the Upstream Oil and Gas Business.”
