Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, has made a breakthrough in his effort to buy Twitter, a prominent social networking site.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Twitter stated on Monday that the billionaire entrepreneur’s $44 billion deal had been approved.

Remember when the Twitter board of directors put in place a “poison pill” to thwart Musk’s plans to purchase the microblogging platform?

“Free expression is the backbone of a healthy democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where things crucial to the future of mankind are debated,” Elon Musk said in a joint statement announcing his takeover.

Musk, the Tesla CEO, began his quest to take over Twitter earlier this month by acquiring a significant interest in the company.

Twitter board chair Bret Taylor said the body “conducted a thoughtful and comprehensive process to assess Elon’s proposal with a deliberate focus on value, certainty, and financing.

“The proposed transaction will deliver a substantial cash premium, and we believe it is the best path forward for Twitter’s stockholders.”
