Ben Ayade, the governor of Cross River State, has stated his ambition to run for president in the 2023 general election.
According to report, the former member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would run on the platform of the governing All Progressive Congress (APC).
On Tuesday, the 54-year-old politician visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa to discuss his political ambitions.
Ayade claimed Buhari gave him the thumbs up to proceed with talks with key party members and stakeholders from the south-south zone shortly after the closed-door meeting.
Ayade stated as part of his platform that if elected, he would focus on power, security, and economic issues.
He, however, said he would not hesitate to align with any candidate of Buhari’s choice, to consolidate on the modest achievements of the APC.
Reacting to the possibility of former President Goodluck Jonathan also declaring for the presidency from the same zone and how that would affect his ambition, Ayade said he would gladly support Jonathan if he is the anointed candidate of the party.
