In Sokoto State, Nigeria’s biggest opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has lost a member to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
Senator Ibrahim Danbaba, who represents Sokoto South Senatorial District, said on Wednesday (today) that he is no longer a member of the umbrella party.
The politician stated that he quit the PDP due to a protracted issue in the party’s Sokoto State branch.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Danbaba announced his decision in a letter to the National Assembly, which was read in plenary today by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.
According to him, the APC’s philosophy corresponds to his own political beliefs.
Meanwhile, gunmen shot and killed a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State, Sunday Frank Oputu, at his home.
Gunmen assassinated Oputu at his home on Bay-Bridge Road in Yenagoa, the state capital, in the early hours of Tuesday.
The dead, who was an associate of former Minister of Agriculture Heineken Lokpobiri, was a member of the ex-loyalist Minister’s faction.

Before his death, Oputu was widely regarded as the Bayelsa opposition’s spokesman.
The APC chieftain was among those who opposed Minister of Petroleum Resources Timipre Sylva’s control and leadership of the party.
Asinim Butswat, a spokeswoman for the state police command, verified the news.
Butswat noted that the commissioner of police in the state has directed operatives to intensify efforts to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
