Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna congressman, has disclosed the only option for Nigeria’s Southern region to deliver President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor in 2023.

Several organisations and well-intentioned individuals have called for the South East to produce Nigeria’s next President ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on the other hand, are still uncertain over where the presidential ticket should be zoned.

On Tuesday, Sani stated that the only chance for a Southern President to be elected in 2023 is for the main political parties to nominate candidates from the area.

His tweet read: “Power will shift to the South only if the candidates of the two main political parties are picked from the South.”

Meanwhile, leaders of regional socio-cultural organisations Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Afenifere, and PANDEF have accused the APC of tampering with the zoning of the president for 2023 to the South.

The organizations asked that the presidency be returned to the country’s southern region.

However, the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), chaired by Prof. Ango Abdullahi, opposes presidential zoning, urging all major political parties to make their tickets available to people from all parts of the nation.

“Power shift arrangement is already dead and buried,” they claim.
